NIGERIA: WITH just N10 per annum, the newly established Coker-Ibogun Local Council Development Area (LCDA) will continue to occupy a 25-room storey building own by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

The building, which is in Ibogun village in Ifo local government area of Ogun State, is serving as secretariat to the council area.

GatewayMail learnt that the structure has water supply, toilet facilities in each room with a generator to supply electricity in case of power outage.

It was further gathered that the decision of Obasanjo to give out the building at such meagre amount was informed by his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) desire to the LCDA which has its headquarters in his village.

The Chairman of the LCDA, Mr. Juwon Gbadebo, disclosed Obasanjo’s rare gesture to members of the State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, led by Olusola Sonuga, who were on oversight function to the area.

Gbadebo explained that the amount for the rent was a welcome development from Obasanjo, who was born in Ibogun.

According to him, the decision by the ex-President was part of his CRS towards supporting the grassroots for further development.

He also told the committee that the LCDA was able to rehabilitate an extension of a mini water scheme and sank a motorized borehole to prevent water borne diseases through the provision of drinkable water in Iyanalogbo area.

Sonuga, however, urged the management of the LCDA to seize the opportunity and take the advantage to maximise capital and generate more revenue.

He further said that more could still be done as the closest government to the people in the grassroots whereby more quality service delivery would be given as part of the dividends of democracy to the citizens across the state.
