Ogun plans to showcase Ebenezer Obey, Haruna Ishola, Fela, other Ogun artistes

NIGERIA: OGUN State would soon embark on a photographic exhibition of some selected dignitaries who have contributed to the growth and development of the state.

The Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, while speaking during the presentation of the 2018 Appropriation Bill to the Ogun State House of Assembly, said that in addition his administration would stage an art exhibition of indigenous textiles and latest advancement in textile industry.

“Ogun State is privileged to have such a rich cultural heritage with icons and leaders across arts, entertainment as well as politics and many fields of professional and sporting endeavors,” Amosun said.

He stressed: “We will pay homage to this heritage with a photographic exhibition of selected dignitaries of Ogun State decent, an art exhibition of the evolution of indigenous textiles and also participate at the 2018 African Arts and Crafts Expo, 31st edition of the National Festival of Arts and Culture and the Nigerian National Carnival, Abuja Carnival.”

The Governor also said that a museum of Royal Heritage would berth in Abeokuta, alongside museums of Social History and Theatre and Performing Arts in Ilaro and Ijebu Ode respectively.

According to him, the state would be hosting the second edition of the Africa Drums Festival in April 2018 with an expectation to broaden participation from home and abroad.

Amosun maintained that the state was ready to also begin the construction and renovation of tourist sites in honor of the late arts guru, Hubert Ogunde, renowned musicians – Ayinla Omowura, and Jossy Friday, among others.

He stressed: “We also plan the construction and renovation of tourist sites in honour of Hubert Ogunde, Haruna Ishola and Bilikisu Sungbo in Ogun East, Ayinla Omowura, S. Aka and Chief Ebenezer Obey in Ogun Central as well as Jossy Friday and Vasco Dagama in Ogun West to attract visitors and boost the Internally Generated Revenue of the State.”
