NGO plans political party for Nigerian youth

NIGERIA: A NON-GOVERNMENTAL Organisation (NGO), Fix Nigeria Group, which plans to ‎form a political party for the youth in future election in the country, is underway.

The NGO, which is also pressure group, has flagged off the Ogun State Chapter, which was announced in Abeokuta following meeting held by members, who include majorly youth across the state.

The Vice President of the organisation, Mrs. Abiodun Popoola, said that the platform would help to awaken the consciousness of the progressive minded Nigerians towards taking their destinies into their hands.

“Note we might decide to float a youth driven political party in the future,” Popoola said, adding: “The project is better known as ‘youthocracy’ and defined as the government of the people, by the youth and for the people.”

She stated that the body, which has been registered under the Nigeria law, was founded by a journalist and author, Tunde Eso.

Popoola disclosed that the target of this movement is to focus on the age grade between 18 to 45 years.

“Fix Nigeria Group is a patriotic move founded by Tunde Eso to awakening the consciousness of the progressive minded Nigerians which major members are youth towards taking their destinies into their hands politically, economically and socially in Nigeria,” she said.

She explained that, as at now, the body remained non-partisan, but affirmed that it would transform into active politics in the nearest future, adding that the vision include to promoting the economic and social interest of its members and Nigerians home and abroad.

Others included to create a society in which an informed and active citizenry is sovereign and makes policy decisions based on the will of the majority, and to advocate for a better and formidable society befitting enough as a place of abode for all nations.

The organisation’s Vice President also said that the mission was to build a system of governance through activism, education, empowerment and collaborations.

‎She explained that the code of conduct of the project was to ensure the integrity of the group, while ‎criminal or divisive activities are totally prohibited

‎Popoola also added that the objectives will increase and support youth participation in political activities, governance process and sustenance of democracy.

“We shall identify, mobilize, organize, engage and position our youth to be economically empowered, promote and advocate for social inclusion, social justice, injection of new political ideas, peace building,” she stressed.
