Ogun says new LCDAs created for grassroots development

NIGERIA: OGUN State government has reiterated that the creation of Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) was carried out to ensure development at the grassroots.
The Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Commissioner, Chief Jide Ojuko, stated this at the interdenominational prayer session held at Abeokuta South Local Government Council secretariat, Ake, Abeokuta, as part of activities lined up to commemorate one year in office of the LCDAs.
According to a news release signed by the Ministry’s Press Officer, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, and made available to GatewayMail, the Commissioner, who joined the chairmen and other officials at the various local councils and LCDAs, appreciated God for what the present administration had achieved in 365 days at the third tier of government.
He further said that the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration established the LCDAs in order to consolidate on the efforts at the state level.
Ojuko stressed that the strategic move was also to draw government nearer to the people by extending the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Earlier, the Chairman Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Lukmon Shonekan, had lauded the initiative of the government in creating the LCDAs.
Shonekan explained that the step had helped to promote good governance and cordial relationship across the nooks and crannies of the state.
