Bako, who was represented by the Chief Superintendent, Head of National Anti-Corruption Coalition, Mr. Sulaiman Jimoh, stressed that the war against corruption cannot be won without the active role of the community leaders.

The Acting Chairman stated that community leaders have been blessed with words of wisdom associated with the gospel truth, hence the need to involve them and the active participation of the public, individually and collectively.

“In the past years, communality has been a strength of African people from time immemorial,” Bako said, adding: “Through communal efforts, associations are formed with the view to promote the spirit of solidarity among the people, but speedily develop the society and be each other gatekeepers.”

He also said that ICPC believed that positive vigilance and a robust prevention regime are important pathways to a success and cost efficient of anti-corruption crusade.

“ICPC place a high premium on preventing corruption through systems review and the establishment of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Units (ACTC) in government ministries, departments and agencies,” Bako maintained.

He, however, charged the CDAs’ leaders on the need to intervene and settle quarrels among members before getting out of hands, while also advising parents and guardians to properly monitor their children and wards.

The Coordinator, Organization of Peoples Voice and member National Anti-Corruption Coalition, Mr. Idris Abu, said that the major reason the ICPC was involving the coalition was to build a strategic network and consensus, and direction for a potent fight against corruption in the country.

“Nigerians must come together to overcome the corruption problem of greed and avarice,” Abu emphasised.
