Police kill two robbers, nab one in Ogun

NIGERIA: POLICEMEN in Ogun State have killed two suspected armed robbers and apprehended one in a gun battle between them.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ahmed Iliyasu, told reporters at the Police Station in Ijebu-Ode that the robbers blocked the Sagamu-Ore Expressway at J4 area and began robbing the commuters.
Iliyasu said that his men in Ogbere Divisional Police Headquarters received a distressed call which prompted his men to follow up on the tip off.
He stated that an anti-robbery team, led by the DPO of Ogbere, John Okoh, engaged the men in a gun duel for hours before the two men were killed.
The Commissioner, who was accompanied by the state’s Head of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), said that other members of the syndicate escaped with various degrees of injuries.
Iliyasu said: “In the early hours of today, our men at Ogbere Division received a distress call about a group of armed bandit who blocked Sagamu/Ore expressway at J4 area to rub commuters plying the road.”
“Upon the distress call, the divisional police officer of the station, SP John Okoh led his anti-robbery and other tactical and combat team to the scene where they met the robbers dispossessing commuters of their valuables,” he stated.
He added: “On sighting the policemen, the bandits engaged them in a gun duel which lasted for hours. At the end of the encounter, two members of the dreaded syndicate were gunned down and one was arrested alive while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.”
“The victims were rescued unhurt and we’ve launched serious manhunt for the escaped members of the gang,” Iliyasu said, adding: “Recovered from them are single barrel gun, one phone, a carton of car sound protector and other instruments used in their heinous activities.”
He urged the public, especially health workers, to report any incident of gunshot wound to the police.
Iliyasu sent warning signal to criminals to stay off the state or face a tough time as the command was ready against any form of criminality.
