Nigerian Army vows to flush out miscreants in Ogun

NIGERIA: THE Nigerian Army (NA) has stepped in to tackle identified security challenges in Ogun State.

It said on Sunday that it will introduce “Crocodile smile”, which is aim at addressing security challenges in the state and its environs‎.

The Brigade Commander of 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala, Abeokuta, Basil Adoke, said at the reception organised by the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun as part of activities to mark the nation’s 57th independence anniversary.

Adoke said that the Army will swing into action in the next few days to tackle identified miscreants.

“We are going to start crocodile smile in Ogun State; it is a scale of exercise to step up tempo targeted on miscreants,” he said.

The Army chief, however, told residents not to entertain fears during the operations, which is aimed at flushing out the criminals.

“Though, the state is said to be peaceful, but we still have some miscreants to be dealt with; so when you see crocodile smile don’t be scared,” he counselled.

Adoke also said that the exercise was a replica of “python dance” introduced in Abia State against criminals.

Amosun, however, said at the event held at the Government House, that his administration appreciated the roles of security agencies in the state since his assumption of office.

The Governor assured that his administration would continue to support measures that will make the state crime free.

According to him, criminals would not be allowed to have field day in all the nooks and crannies of the state.

“I want to appreciate our security agencies and we will continue to support security measures,” Amosun said, adding: “It is a known fact that investment cannot grow where there is no peace and without enabling environment.”

The Governor, however, said that he was optimistic that the country would conquer all problems facing it, which is a phase in life.

He said that anyone or group that will divide the country should not be allowed, adding that governance is a serious business that cannot be toyed with by anyone.

Amosun assured that his successor would follow his path of achievements following the platform he has already created.

“When we get to office, we have raised the bar,” he said, adding: “Who is coming after me will follow my path of achievements.  I have laid down the way.”

The event was attended by the first military governor of the state, Seidu Balogun, ex-military administrator of the state, Raji Rasaki, former military administrator of Bauchi and Sokoto states, Raji Rasheed and service chiefs, among others.

Among the traditional rulers present were the Chairman of the State Traditional Council and Olu of Ilaro, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, Alake and Paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, and Olu of Owode, Oba Kolawole Sowemimo.
