Commissioner seeks cooperation at Ogun LGs’ level

NIGERIA: THE Ogun State government has called on chairmen of Local Governments, Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) and Consultative Advisory Committee (CAC) to join hands with one another and maintain harmonious relationship in order to move the councils forward in particular and the state at large.

The State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Jide Ojuko, made this call at an interactive meeting held with the local government chieftains at the Obas’ Complex Hall as a follow-up to the recent meeting held with the Governor Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Ojuko, according to a news release by the ministry’s Press Officer, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, stated that the meeting was an avenue to straighten all rough edges with the various stakeholders, discuss challenges and proffer solutions with the aim to move the state forward.

The Commissioner added that the present administration was passionate about the wellbeing of its people and would require the cooperation of all the stakeholders to ensure that dividends of democracy were distributed to the grassroots.

Speaking at the meeting, the senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Chief Derin Adebiyi, charged the chairmen to work in unity and put away sentiments in order to ensure that the rebuilding mission of the present administration is a success story.

In their contributions, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, Hon. Musefiu Lamidi and Special Adviser on Intergovernmental Affairs, Mr. Tola Banjo, charged the chairmen to work in tandem with party structures and complement the efforts of the present administration to ensure that dividends of democracy were distributed to the grassroots.

In their responses, the Chairman of Odogbolu CAC, Asiwaju Sina Ogunbambo, and Hon. Tunde Oladunjoye of Ijebu East CAC appreciated the government for the innovation of the CAC as an avenue to straighten local government administration.

They assured of their readiness to support the local government chairmen improve the council’s IGR and ensuring the sustainability of the newly created LCDAs.

At the end of the meeting a communique was issued with the underlisted resolutions:

  1. There must be a cordial relationship between the CAC Chairmen and the Council Chairmen at the Local Governments and LCDAs across the State. As a result, at least one meeting should be held once in a month inviting Party Chairman and Secretary.
  2. Minutes of such meeting should be forwarded to State Office of the S.A. Political Affairs, S.S.A Political and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
  3. At the meeting, discussions should centre on party welfare, membership, programmes of council as it affects the people in the various Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

In case of emergency, consultations must be made.

  1. All revenue heads are to be forwarded to the Ministry, while priority on spending should be given to environment especially around the newly constructed roads across the state should be taken care of.
  2. Employ at least 10 sweepers for the maintenance and weeding of the roads.
  3. *Chief Sina Ogunbambo.

    On supervision of government projects, CAC and council Chairmen should supervise all government projects and monitor on going progress which are to be reflected in the minutes of their monthly meetings.

  4. Boundary issues and IGR are purely government matters. All Chairmen are to allow government agencies to resolve them.
  5. On meeting of CAC chairmen, council chairmen should allow CAC members to meet in their conference room or legislative Chambers.
  6. Council and CAC chairmen should endeavour to attend party meetings in their respective Local Government Areas.

At the end of the meeting, the stakeholders at the meeting agreed that the meeting came at the right time and pledged their unfailing support to the present administration to rebuild the state.
