NIGERIA: NOBEL Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has expressed concern over the rate and evil of jungle justice and inhuman treatment in the country.

According to him, the situation to fellow human beings has assumed a worrisome level.

The President Women Arise for Change Initiative (WACI), Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakin, made this known on her Facebook in the post on the “working visit” of Soyinka to the group’s office in Lagos on Wednesday.

Okei-Odumakin, who was accompanied by the group’s Coordinator Research and Programme, Comrade Gbenga Ganzallo, Director of Documentation, Comrade Mike Okoroafor, Secretary-General Comrade Veronica Isioma, and Director Training NUAT, Comrade Gbemi Efunnuga, during the visit, however, said that the Nobel Laureate praised WACI on the roles it has been playing in the society.

“In his response, the Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, acknowledged the efforts and achievements of Women Arise and other organizations under Dr. Joe’s watch; he mentioned that what needed to be done is what Dr. Joe’s organizations are doing right now,” she said.

Okei-Odumakin also said: “He recounted not less than four news items in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria that got him so worried on the inhuman treatment and evil of jungle justice.

Earlier, the WACI President, who received Soyinka in company of top management staff of the organization with solidarity songs, had informed the Nobel Laureate “on the social intervention of the various organizations resident within the facility, i.e. Women Arise, Nigerians Unite Against Terror, Nigerians Unite Against Corruption and Centre for Change.”

“These activities and the various interventions are targeted at the eradication of injustice of all forms; all acts of corruption; including violence against women and girls; jungle justice/mob actions, amongst others,” she further said on the Facebook.

She further told Soyinka that these actions were being carried out in order to achieve a plural society, devoid of injustice and abuse of power.

“A case in point was the recent march against corruption and other vices organized by the Movement Against Corruption (MAC) as one of the several activities to enhance a plural society,” Okei-Odumakin stressed.
