NIGERIA: AN alleged reckless driver of a timber lorry has killed two Muslim worshippers at a praying ground in Ogun State.

The driver rammed into the worshippers on Friday at the praying ground in Atikori area of Ijebu-Igbo when Muslim faithful congregated for supplication to Allah to mark Eid-El-Kabir, also known as Sallah.

GatewayMail gathered that a policeman, Joseph Adejuwon, who attempted to rescue the driver of the Bedford truck from being lynched to death, was allegedly killed in the process by the angry mob.

Eyewitness said that many other worshippers sustained series of injuries in the crash, which made the mob to descend on the driver to mete out jungle justice on him before he was rescued by policemen.

It was, however, gathered that the driver had been detained at the police station, while the injured persons were taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed that two persons died in the auto crash.

He said in an interview that the dead policeman was an orderly to a Divisional Police Officer in the area.

Oyeyemi explained that the driver had been detained and that the police command had commenced investigation into the accident.
