NIGERIA: THE former governorship candidate of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) in the 2015 general election in Ogun State, Prince Rotimi Paseda, has advised the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the education sector.

“There’s need to urgently declare state of emergency in the sector and allow professionals to manage the affairs of education in the country,” he declared.

He also said: “If proper funds were harnessed into the sector, I can assure you that our economy would have improved better than this.”

Paseda declared that if the government of President Muhammadu Buhari meant well to ensure better academic performance in the schools, it must rejig the political appointments in the education sector.

Similarly, the politician, who is interested in contesting the 2019 governorship election, blamed the lopsided appointments made by the government in recent past on the poor record in the sector.

The governorship hopeful said: “I will blame the Federal Government on the rot in the education sector because of the political appointments in the sector which have bastardised the system.”

Paseda, who is the Founder of Paseda Legacy Foundation (PLF), also lambasted the government of Senator Ibikunle Amosun for poor funding of the education in the state despite taking large chunk of the budget.

He emphasised that if government could divert more resources into education, the dwindling economy of the country would be revamped.

Paseda, however, stressed that the holiday coaching across the state was not meant for political gain, but to instill moral values among the future generations.

The politician said that it was embarrassing for Ogun State to hurriedly jump on the bandwagon to organize its “customised” holiday coaching which barely attracted 182 children across the state after seeing his initiative.

“Our government have indeed legally failed our children and the people,” he said, adding: “Paseda free coaching is here to stay right through till 2019 and beyond God willing.”

‎The Founder of PLF, therefore, urged all stakeholders to contribute to the growth of the sector, adding that “since the beginning of the ongoing free holiday coaching, I have not been opportuned to attend the lessons, so that was why I’ve been going round to advice the students on values of education.”

He declared that the foundation’s coaching programme attracted over 10, 000 indigent students across the state.
