NIGERIA: EX-OGUN State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, is not happy with the Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose.

Why?

Daniel said on Sunday that he wasn’t okay with the way Fayose has been playing politics with the health of President Muhammed Buhari.

The 74-year-old Buhari has been on medical vacation to UK since last May 7 and yet to return, the development which led to Fayose’s strident criticisms of the President, particularly the state of his health.

But, Daniel, who governed the Gateway State for two-term of eight years on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) like Fayose, cautioned the Governor to desist from playing politics with Buhari’s health.

The former Governor counselled the controversial governor while featuring as a guest of the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) at an interactive session held in Abeokuta, the state capital.

He explained that there was nothing wrong for a formidable opposition to checkmate the excesses of government which Fayose has been doing.

But Daniel said he frown at the manner of Fayose’s approach to be playing politics over the ailment of the President.

He said: “It is good to have opposition for good democracy to thrive; a democracy without a viable opposition is dictatorship.  It will checkmate excesses of government in power, which Fayose is doing, but it is not good playing politics ‎with President’s health.”

Daniel, who is a still a member and leader of PDP, explained that no human being is immune to sickness.

He also stated that rather than turning Buhari’s health to an issue, Nigerians should pray for his good health.

“He is our President and I am one of those who want him to recover with good health, and there is no reason why we should toy with his health.  I want his recovery and that is my prayer,” Daniel further said.

Daniel, however, stated that the woeful defeat of the PDP in 2011 in the state, was caused by the opposition’s propaganda, the defeat which he said remained a big blow for the party.

The ex-Governor explained: “We allowed the propaganda of opposition to defeat the sitting government, whereas machinery of government is expected to be up and doing.”

Daniel, however, expressed confidence that since the PDP had become united, it will reclaim its lost glory as Nigerians are fed up with the APC-led government at all levels.

“Now people who called for change are now calling for change the change,” the former Governor said, adding: “It is now a clear fact that Nigerians at all levels are fed up with APC government.”

“It is now time for comparative analysis,” Daniel said.
