Police nab eight suspected telecom mast vandals in Ogun

NIGERIA: EIGHT men who allegedly vandalized MTN telecommunication mast have landed in police net in Ogun State.

The state Police Command said that it the suspects, who specialized in vandalizing telecommunication masts to steal equipment.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the men apprehended during the act are Tunde Adebayo, Adewole Saheed, Chinedu Eze, Isaac Dele, Henpery Evans, Emmanuel Otulo, Olaniyan Olayinka, Jimoh Idowu.

Oyeyemi said that the men were nabbed following an information received by the Divisional Police Officer for Owode-Egba, Chief Superintendent of Police Sheu Alao, that the suspects, who came in a Ford bus with registration number EPE 613 DJ, have stormed the MTN mast located at Gbalefu village in Ajebo, vandalized it and were about fleeing the scene with the stolen valuable equipment from the mast.
“Upon the information, the DPO led his men to the scene where the suspects were rounded up,” the police image maker said.
He stressed: “Recovered from them are a Ford bus with registration number EPE 613 DJ, tools used in vandalising the mast, cash sum of N98,600, hand set of different types, many ATM and identity cards.
“The suspects has since owned up to the crime and made confessional statements. They also confessed coming from different parts of the country and met at Ijebu Ode where they used to plan for their operations.”
Oyeyemi explained that the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to FSARS for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspects.
