Gunmen assassinate royal father in Ogun, burn corpse

NIGERIA: A TRADITIONAL ruler in Ogun State has been assassinated.
He is Olowo of Owo in Ogun West Senatorial District, Oba Patrick Fasinu.
GatewayMail gathered that the royal father was killed on Wednesday by unknown gunmen while returning from Yewa Traditional Council meeting in Ilaro.
It was learnt that after his assassination along Ijako-Isagbo road in Oke-Odan in Yewa South Local Government, the gunmen also set his corpse ablaze.
The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this on Friday, said that the monarch had earlier dropped his driver around Owode and was driving to Owo when the gunmen attacked Oba Fasinu said to be close to members of Yewa Descendants Union (YDU).
“It is true sir, we have commenced investigation into the case,” Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said.
He added: “It was gathered that the monarch was coming from Ilaro, but dropped his driver somewhere in Owode and drove alone towards Owo only for him to be attacked on the road where he was killed and set ablaze with his car.”
Following this development, according to him, the command had commenced forensic investigation to find out the rationale behind the killing and arrest the culprits.
“He was a strong supporter of YDU and was looking forward to our conference in October,” a member of YDU based in London, Mr. Femi Oniyide told GatewayMail in his reaction, adding: “May his soul rest in peace.”
