NIGERIA: THE Executive Director of Conscience Nigeria, Mr. Tosin Adeyanju, has cautioned northern youths against fanning embers of disunity in the country.

Adeyanju also said in a statement on Sunday in Abuja that the youths should endeavour to use their time and resources on issues that would promote unity and peace of the country.

Adeyanju, who made reference to the call by Coalition of Northern Youths that South West leaders were planning to install Osinbajo as president, said Conscience Nigeria condemned in strong terms such statement.

“We believe that such statement will further hit up the polity and divide the nation when there is so much hate speeches flying around in the country at this material time,” the Executive Director stressed, while urging Osinbajo to hold urgent talks with the youths to douse the tension in the country.

He praised the acting President for meeting various interest groups as part of measures to cool frayed nerves following the quit order by the Northern youths imposed on Igbos residing in the north and promoters of the independence of Biafra.

“We, however, appeal to him to immediately meet with the most critical sector of the country that begin the quit notice itself, “the Nigerian Youths,” Adeyanju said, adding:

“We believe this will help them to develop some sense of belonging in this conversation that is ongoing about the importance of Nigeria’s unity.”

He also charged Osinbajo to inaugurate the ministers who were recently confirmed by the Senate, adding that the inauguration was significant due to the fact that some states have no representatives in the Federal Executive Council.

“We also appeal to the acting President to remain focus in steering the ship of the nation,” Adeyanju maintained, while adding: “He should as well assertive in carrying out his constitutional roles in his capacity as acting President, as stipulated by the Nigeria Constitution.”
