Police arrest father for putting son in chain over N2,000 theft

NIGERIA: A 41-YEAR-OLD father is in trouble with the police over his cruel act towards his 13-year-old son.
The Ogun State Police Command said that Adeoye Oreyomi was apprehended for allegedly detaining and chaining his son, Demola Oreyomi, over alleged theft of his N2,000.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed to GatewayMail on Tuesday, explained that Oreyomi dehumanised the child at number 9, Dokun Street, Ewuga in Sagamu area of the state.
“Men of Ogun State Police Command have arrested a 41 yr old man Adeoye Oreyomi ‘m’ for dehumanizing his 13yr old son Demola Oreyomi ‘m’,” Oyeyemi said.
The police image maker added that the suspect confessed that he striped his son naked before tying him on both hands and legs with chain and padlocked it because Demola stole his N2000.
Oyeyemi further added that residents in the neighborhood, who knew and expressed fear that the boy might die, quickly alerted the Police at the Shagamu Divisional Headquarters.
According to him, after the report, the Divisional Police Officer, Aduroja Moses, led his team to the scene where Demola, who was soaked in blood.
The police spokesperson stressed that the victim was promptly rescued and taken to Owokoniran Hospital in Shagamu for medical treatment, while his father was arrested.
He said that the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect be charged to court once investigation is concluded.
According to Oyeyemi, the Commissioner equally warned that the command will not tolerate any act of lawlessness from anyone notwithstanding the status of such person.
