NIGERIA: A CHAIRMANSHIP candidate for the Freelance and Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (FIBAN) in Ogun State, Mr. Olufemi Iyanda Omilani, has explained why he is contesting for the chairmanship seat of the association.

Omilani said that he was not in the race to rubbish or disrespect the leaders and elders of the association, but to work together and create means to reward those who have worked tirelessly to build the association’s image and reputation over the years.

The candidate said this when he and his team visited two media organisations in Ogun State – Family Radio and the Ogun State Broadcasting Corporation (OGBC) – as part of his electioneering campaign.

Omilani, who is aiming to be the youngest ever FIBAN Chairman in Nigeria if elected on July 6, 2017, said that his visit was to officially inform the managements of the stations of his ambition and to present his team to them, and seek their consent, as stakeholders, on his visions and missions for Ogun FIBAN.

While briefing the hosts, Omilani assured them that he and his youthful “Femi & Joke Campaign Team” would accord leaders of the association the respect that befits them wherever they are because it is time for them to be rewarded for their labours in the past.

He urged the leaders, as those who know the way, to take the responsibility of showing the youths the way to go by giving them the opportunity to lead.

Omilani, however, assured that Ogun FIBAN will use the impending election to prove to the whole world that the broadcasters practice what they preach by conducting free and fair polls.

He stressed that with free and fair election, FIBAN will show, once again, that Ogun State is number one when it comes to civilization in Nigeria by electing the youngest ever Chairman of any FIBAN chapter in the federation.

According to him, the support he enjoyed was in line with the clamour for the young ones, under ‘Not Too Young To Run Bill’ crusade to contest for elective positions in Nigeria and globally.

While pledging his organisation’s support for Omilani, the General Manager of Family Radio, Abeokuta, Engineer Opeoluwa Kilaso, said that though the station is keenly monitoring the trends of the election, none of its staff will be partial in rendering support to any contestant in the election.

Kilaso praised the courage of Omilani and praised the campaign team headed by Aare Sunday Ogunsola (Tantala) for putting up such a team of young, enterprise and determined gentlemen and women, at the time that countries of the world are electing young candidates as Presidents, citing the examples of Canada and France.

He said that as a youth himself, he can see that the team put together will surely take Ogun FIBAN to places.

The Head of Presentations of the station, Alhaji Moroof Adegboyega, popularly known as “Omo Odo Agba”, who assured that the station will give enough coverage for the election, promised to support FIBAN.

The acting General Manager of OGBC, Mr. Busayo Olaifa, in his response, urged the team to always work together and make sure that none of them quit the association no matter the outcome of the election.

Olaifa maintained that in every contest, there will be winners and losers, adding that whatever the result may be the team should stick together and continue to work because they will form a tactful and organised youth of mutual influences that will take Ogun FIBAN to greater heights.

Olaifa pledged the continued support of the station to the team, led on the campaign tours by Comrade Musilu Sanni, popularly known as Bebe, while maintaining the station’s neutral stance on the election.

Among the OGBC management that received the team are Mrs. Toyin Sogbesan, Mr. Funso Lawanson, Mrs. Ronke Adeyemi, and Mr. Femi Adeyanju, while the campaign team consists of aspirants for various offices in the elections.

They are Princess Adejoke Somoye (Vice Chairman), Ayinla Egba (General Secretary), Muibat Adebisi Oseni (Treasurer), Adewale Sokoya (Publicity Secretary), Abolanle Asakpa (Financial Secretary), Rasheed Ojelabi Ore-Oba (Organising Secretary), Olusoji Akindiya (Chief Whip), Toyin Adeniji (Welfare Secretary), Adedeji Sunmola (Publicity Secretary II) and Olu Makinde (Ex-Officio).
