Oyeyemi said: “The men of Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Segun Olaseni ‘m’ 20 yrs old for having unlawful carnal knowledge of a 9 yrs old girl (name withheld). His arrest followed a complaint from one Adepoju Akinyemi ‘m.”

He added that the complainant reported at Sango Ota Divisional Police Headquarter that Olaseni came to his house at 20 Eniola Street New life Estate, Ota on Sunday, last May 21 while he was busy at his work and forcibly had carnal knowledge of his daughter.

“Upon the complaint, the DPO Sango Ota Division, SP Akinsola Ogunwale led detectives to the house of the suspect at No 24 Eniola Street New life Estate, Ota where he was promptly arrested,” the police spokesperson further explained.

He stated that upon interrogation, Olaseni confessed to the crime and also claimed to have been closed to the family since their houses were not far from each other.

The Police Public Relations Officer maintained that Olaseni further confessed that he met the girl alone in their living room from where he pulled her into her dad’s bedroom where he had sex with her.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said that the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the transfer of the case to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation and possible prosecution of the suspect.

“The Commissioner who decried the careless attitude of some parents towards their children especially female ones appealed to members of the public to take their children’s welfare serious so as not to make them easy prey in the hands of the devilish people,” the police image maker further said.
