JAMB nabs kingpin of its website hackers

NIGERIA: THE Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has apprehended the leader of a gang who hacked the website of the board to perpetrate illegality.
The Registrar of the Board, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, made this known at the maiden edition of the 2017 Ogun State Education Summit held at June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta.
Oloyode, while delivering the lecture titled “Baseline and Assessment” bemoaned the fact that the suspect was from Abeokuta, and felt ashamed that such character hailed from his home town.
“I was ashamed to have come from Abeokuta, the day we discovered that the greatest criminal to have hacked into the website of JAMB for the 2017 UTME exam came from Abeokuta,” he stressed.
The Registrar, however, said that as at the time of his lecture at the summit, the suspect had been handed over to the police for further investigation and subsequent prosecution.
“As a matter of fact, I was ashamed and I had to claim that I came from Ake, and there is no difference between Ake and Abeokuta. However, as expected the suspect is where he should be, he is in detention,” he further said.
While speaking in connection with the JAMB discovery on the hackers, Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, stated that he was set to rehabilitate the cyber dogs in turning a new leaf for positive betterment of the state.
Amosun, who also expressed shock that the arrested fraudster came from Ogun State, said he would do everything possible to ensure that the sound knowledge of such hackers are used positively to the benefit of the state.
He pointed out that if the hackers could be so brilliant in manipulating a technology process, it would have been more advantageous to use such skill in making positive impact into the system.
The Governor stressed that his administration would going out in full force to uncover many of the hackers in the state, to tap their brains for positively development rather than negative ways.
