NIGERIA: THE Governing Council (GC) of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokua (FUNAAB) in Ogun State has appointed Professor Ololade Enikuomehin, as the acting Vice-Chancellor of the university.

*Professor Enikuomoehin…Acting VC.

The GC, headed by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Dr. Aboki Zhawa, at its meeting, which lasted for two days, sidelined Professor (Mrs.) Catherine Oluyemisi Eremosele, the most senior deputy to the erstwhile Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olusola Oyewole, to pick Enikuomehin.

It would be recalled that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had penultimate Thursday suspended Oyewole and directed him to hand over to Eremosele, who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) and most senior professor.

Adamu said in the letter to Oyewole, who ended his tenure on Tuesday: “Sequel to your arraignment before an Ogun State High Court on criminal charges, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday, 24th November 2016, I am directed to convey the Honourable Minister’s approval to place you on suspension from Office with immediate effect pending the determination of the court case against you in accordance with extant rules.”

“You are therefore, directed to hand over the affairs of your office to the most senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor, in the University,” Adamu said in a letter reference number FME/HE/SU/56A/V/929 dated May 5, 2017 and signed the acting Permanent Secretary by Dr. Hussaini Adamu.

But the GC chose Enikuomehin, who was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development) in consonance with the prior decision of the Senate of the university at its meeting held last May 17, where the issue of the acting Vice-Chancellor, Governing Council, correspondence from the Federal Ministry of Education and expiration of the tenure of Oyewole, who is facing charges bordering on conspiracy, stealing, obtaining money by false pretence and abuse of office at the Ogun State High Court, were discussed.

*Prof. Oyewole…Left after five years tenure.

Meanwhile, Oyewole, who was arraigned in court alongside with the former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the university, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, and ex-Bursar, Mr. Moses Ilesanmi, said that he had no regret in administering the university.

The former Vice-Chancellor told journalists on Tuesday after handing over to Enikuomehin that he had made his contributions in the last five years to moving the university to greater heights.

“We have gone round the campus today, we have seen the various structures and infrastructures that we have put in place and our commitment is to see to the advancement of this university,” Oyewole said.

“I am still part of the system and I know the university is in good hands,” he said, adding: “In life, we face challenges but we know that we shall overcome all the challenges that come our way.  I have no regrets.”

The ex-Vice-Chancellor further said: “All that I can say is to thank God for His grace and mercies.  I keep on looking up to God to do my best.  I am still in the university system.”
