NIGERIA: A UNITED Kingdom based information technology professional, Mr. Samuel Fatiregun, has counseled Nigeria on how to create jobs for its unemployed graduates.

Fatiregun, a chartered information expert, stressed that the government must convert her teeming unemployed graduates into locally and internationally employable ICT professionals.

This idea, according to him, could be done by providing incentives for the unemployed ones to attend short term hands on skill based training.

Fatiregun gave the advice at the launch of his new book on ICT titled “A practical guide to software testing” held in Lagos.

He stressed that at a position of 137 out of 175 countries surveyed on technology growth Nigeria needs to wake up from her slumber and promote ICT through multiple initiatives.

The ICT expert maintained that a situation where the country’s professionals and industry, such as banks, develop software from India needs to be urgently reversed by empowering the youths to create jobs for them.

However, while reviewing the book, the Head, IT of RT Briscoe Nigeria Plc, Mr. Keji Olubuade, said Nigeria is currently far from becoming a digital nation because the country’s IT policies has not been effective.

Olubuade maintained that government needs to redirect the nation’s youths on the path of greatness.

According to him, there is no country in the world that has been making progress that has not set good IT policies.

He also explained that the significance of providing incentives and other necessary impetus for the IT companies.

“We are in an era of business datas and a lit of inventions that Nigeria is yet to tap into,” Olubuade said, adding: “We are missing a lot, our youths have been lost to crime.  These are the youths that can propel this nation to greatness.”

According to him, revenue that should come into the country to develop infrastructure and other things are being lost to foreigners.

“We outsource our jobs to Indians and other foreigners,” he explained.  “We need to get our policies right, we need to understand that IT is something we need to get to the promise land.”
