NIGERIA: AUCTIONEERS in Ogun State have indicated their plan to collaborate with the police to flush out receivers of stolen properties in the state and its environs.
The members under the aegis of Nigerian Association of Auctioneers (NAA) said that they had observed that fake auctioneers and their godfathers were behind receipt of stolen goods.
Due to this discovery, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee of NAA, Chief Olu Odeyemi, said that the association had resolved to work with security agents to expose and deal with the illegality and crimes associated with it.
Odeyemi, a former Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, explained the plan at the extension tenure of the committee held in Abeokuta.
He stated that part of the methods to checkmate the crime is that only registered auctioneers would be allowed to operate in the state.
“Our association resolved to partner with police and other security agents to flush out receivers of stolen goods, and in the same vein, their godfathers would be exposed,” Odeyemi said.
He also stated that a task force had been formed to monitor auctioneering business in the state, adding that anyone caught not to be a registered member would be handed over to law enforcement agencies for appropriate prosecution.
“We have put in place a task force to monitor activities, and only registered members would be allowed to operate,” Odeyemi, a former Commissioner in the state, said.
He added: “Any unregistered and self-acclaimed members would henceforth be handed over to appropriate authority to face prosecution.”
The NAA leader, who also disclosed that the caretaker committee would be in office for six months till October, explained that within the period his leadership would set up electoral committee to conduct fresh election.
Members of the caretaker committee include Segun Yusuf (Secretary), Anuoluwa Bajogbo (Treasurer), Johnson Boluogun (member) and Muibat Sofowora (member).
According to him, the dissolution of the former executive of the association followed a vote of no confidence passed on the leadership and ratified by the association, with the approval of the NAA national secretariat.
