South West governors meet on militants next week

NIGERIA: SECURITY of the people of the South West will occupy the agenda of the governors in the region in their meeting scheduled to hold next week in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
Similarly, the governors mostly of the All Progressive Congress (APC) with the exception of Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), would also discuss export development initiatives for the Western region. The Secretary to State Government (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, made this known in a press statement made available to the GatewayMail in Abeokuta.
The governors to join the host, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, are Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Senator Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo).
Adeoluwa said on Thursday that the security issue would be discussed “in view of the current contemporary unwholesome activities of some criminal elements parading themselves as militants now ravaging parts of the region.”
According to him, the meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April, 24, by 11am, at the Government House, Oke-Igbein, Abeokuta.
“The meeting is to further evaluate the key areas of cooperation that will foster unity and progress towards the development of the region,” Adeoluwa said.
The SSG further explained that the meeting would also explore areas of collaboration that would engender good governance.
