NIGERIA: NO fewer than five persons have been killed in an auto crash at new Makun axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Three others were seriously injured in the crash that included a toddler who died on the spot.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enlightenment Agency (TRACE) Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi, who confirmed this to GatewayMail, said that the accident, which occurred last Thursday, involved a truck and passenger bus.
Akinbiyi explained that the crash was due to heavy down pour with over speeding by the driver of the commercial Mazda bus with registration number LSD 454 XT which rammed into the truck.
He stated that the bus had no functional wiper to clear the windscreen, the development which blurred the driver’s vision and led to the crash.
According to him, the impact of the collision led to the death of the five victims in the bus, who were traveling alongside other occupants.
The TRACE spokesperson added that Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who was heading towards Lagos met the accident.
His convoy eventually joined the rescue team of the injured victims, who were moved to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu for treatment.
