NIGERIA: FREEDOM may soon come the way of the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, should the planned talks by the South East Governors with the federal government be fruitful.
The governors, GatewayMail learnt, will also discuss other issues concerning pro-Biafra groups like MASSOB, IPOB and ecological problems affecting the zone.
Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Engineer Dave Umahi, who briefed newsmen at the end of the meeting said that “today the governors of the South East agreed to meet with the various and appropriate authorities of the federal government to discuss the issue of IPOB, MASSOB, and Nnamdi Kanu’s detention.”
Umahi said: “We also intend to discuss ecological problems in the South East, issues of various water dams that have been abandoned in the zone, our challenges of power, our challenges of security, and other very many concerns of our people.” “We are very committed to this and actions have already commenced on these issues,” he said, adding: “Today we discussed a number of issues, but let’s first announce to you that our secretariat here in Enugu is now fully functional so that if you have a need to contact the South East Governors Forum you do that through our secretariat.”
“Fortunately it is also in the Enugu Government House,” Umahi, who is the Governor of Ebonyi State, said.
“South East governors also agreed to meet with all stakeholders of South East to discuss and address all issues that are of interest to our people,” the Governor said.
The Governor added: “We approved two representatives for each state in the economic committee of South East Governors and we have mandated them to immediately meet and fashion out a roadmap towards our economic integration. “This will be done in coming weeks so that they will present a road map for our economic indices and development in our next meeting.”
While denying reported fire incident in the Ebonyi Government House, the Governor said: “Let me digress a little to say that there was no fire incident at the Government House Ebonyi State.”
“That’s not correct. What happened was that in the office of the Chief of staff, there was over usage of the air conditioner and it has a little problem,” the Governor said.
