NIGERIA: THE Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has urged the Federal Government to cede all the Federal roads in the state to his government in order to quicken their repairs.

Amosun made the plead on Monday at a press conference he held after the State Executive Council Meeting held at Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The Governor noted that most of the Federal roads in the state have been neglected by the Federal Government as a result of which they are in deplorable conditions.

‎Amosun cited some of the roads to include Sagamu/Ogijo, Lagos/Abeokuta, Papalanto-Interchange, Lafenwa-Ayetoro, Papalanto/Ilaro and Lagos/ Ibadan.

The Governor described the Sagamu/Ogijo road as an eye-sore despite the fact that 70 percent of the products in circulation within and outside the state are being lifted through heavy laden trucks on the road.

He said his government spends about N400 million on Federal roads every raining season to make them motorable.

Amosun disclosed that though the Federal Government owed the state N124 billion for repairing Federal roads, but stated that despite that if the roads are ceded to the state government, it would seek support and run around to repair them.

Hear him: “We always use N400 million every raining season to intervene on these roads, we will appreciate if the Federal government can cede the roads to us, we have the capacity to do the roads better than what they (Federal government) are doing.”

Amosun assured that his government would complete all the on-going projects it embarked upon at the inception of his administration before leaving office.

In this regard, the Governor said that “all the contractors are already back to site.”

“We realize we have two years to leave, Ogun standard is what we believe we will continue to give our people the dividends of democracy,” he said, adding: “We have remobilized our contractors two weeks ago; they are now back on site, we will work our talk.”

The governor said that some of the roads, which the contractors shall restart work on them, are the Ilo-Awela road, Moshood Abiola Way, OGTV Road, Akute Road, Atan Agbara Road and Akangba/Ilese Road, among others.

Amosun disclosed that his government had commenced the building of the State Judicial Complex which President Muhammadu Buhari laid the foundation last year.

He disclosed that the government had paid for new transmitter for the state television station.

The governor assured that all the projects his administration started in all parts of the state would be completed before the expiration of his tenure.
