23-year-old man beheads 72-year-old woman in Ogun

NIGERIA: A 23-YEAR-OLD man, Adeoye Ikugbayigbe, has cut short the life of a 72-year-old woman in Abigi area of Ogun State.

The Ogun State Police Command said that Ikugbayigbe was alleged to have beheaded the septuagenarian, Mrs. Fumilayo Shada, after tracing her to the farm.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed this to GatewayMail on Monday, said that the suspect was arrested after the late woman’s son, Ekundayo Shada, reported the matter to the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters.

Oyeyemi stated that Ekundayo told the police that he was on his way to the farmland to see his mother when he met the suspect holding a polythene bag.

According to the police image maker, Ekundayo explained to the police that the suspect on sighting him dropped the polythene bag and fled.

This action, the deceased son told the police, made him to be curious and quickly ran into the farm to look for his mother, but couldn’t find her.

Ekundayo further told the police, according to Oyeyemi, that by the time he returned to check the polythene bag he was shocked to see his mother head in it.

The police image maker said‎ that the Divisional Police Officer for Abigi Division, Komolafe Omoniyi, led detectives to the scene.

Oyeyemi explained that after policemen carried out frantic search of the surrounding bush they finally arrested the suspect.

“On interrogation, he confessed to the commission of the crime, claiming that he has been having running battle with the deceased over a portion of land,” he said.

Oyeyemi said that the severed head and the corpse of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary while the cutlass used by the suspect had also been recovered.

He stressed: “The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered that the suspect be transferred to Homicide section of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department (SCIID) for further investigation.”
