NIGERIA: THE Bill upgrading the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (Mapoly), Abeokuta, Ogun State, to university has been signed into law by the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
The signing of the Bill at the State Executive Council meeting on Monday followed the earlier passage by the lawmakers to turn the polytechnic into Moshood Abiola University of Science and Technology.
Similarly, the Bill also approved the re-establishment of Ogun State Polytechnic in Ipokia area of the state.
Amosun said after appending his signature that the institutions would be multi-campus, as government would engage necessary think-tanks and qualified academics to provide the technical guide for the successful take-off.
This move, according to him, would enable the institutions compete favourably with their contemporaries.
The Governor praised the efforts of the House of Assembly for the timely and successful passage of the Bill.
He assured that the necessary documents had been processed and sent to the appropriate quarters.
While speaking with journalists on the development, the Speaker, Suraj Adekunbi, said that the lawmakers accelerated the passage of the Bill due to the prospect and opportunities of the university and the polytechnic to the state and the education sector.
Adekunbi said that the step would also create jobs for the people and provide more access to tertiary education, particularly in Ipokia and its environs.
