NIGERIA: THE Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has given kudos to a social media network, Penpushing, for a job well done in the dissemination of credible news among its members.

The agency in charge of road monitoring for safety purposes said that the social network platform remains the most reliable and authentic social media in global news dissemination.

The Command’s Sector Commander, Clement Oladele,‎ gave the commendation in an interview with journalists during the official decoration of the newly promoted 298 staff of the Ogun State Traffic  Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) held in Abeokuta.
Oladele, who is also active participants on the Penpushing further said that the array of personalities on the platform was a clear indication of its credibility.

He disclosed that the platform had also added value to the performances of his agency.

“Well, I can look at it from two perspectives: personal and official.  Personally, when I came in on the 17th October, 2016, I met with associations and unions of the media practitioners whose activities I consider as very critical to our operations,” Oladele said.

The FRSC chief stated that thereafter he was introduced to the Penpushing, which he was amazed to be getting free credible information across the world.

He said: “After adding me on, I just discovered that I was getting free information. Free information which ordinarily I would not have been able to access on my own.”

Oladele added: “So, personally, I felt it’s a good thing. There was a period there was an issue and I was curious to know the calibre of people that were following them.  Later when I saw the array of personalities that are following the forum, I had a change of mind and became convinced that it is a forum that one should not just take with levity.”

The FRSC boss explained that he has become addicted to the platform because he was convinced about its authenticity in getting credible news.

He said: “And to me personally, each time I wake up early in the morning after my prayers, the first thing I put on is my WhatsApp and check the messages to get in tune with the happenings around me because personally, I am a news person and so, the forum has never disappointed at feeding me daily with the news.”

“Then officially, I think the first time I tested the WhatsApp forum was when we were having our ‘Ember Months Campaign,” he said, adding: “Then, we were having some challenges along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.  I just said alright let me give some information on the Penpushing Forum.”

Oladele further said: “I just discovered that almost immediately, either some people called me or they reacted to the information and so, the information just went viral.  I then realized that the forum is a very useful tool for me that I could use to do my work.”

He also praised the initiative of the founder and the discipline being injected into the platform by the administrators, which he declared had made the platform unique among other social media known to him.

Oladele declared: “So, to me personally, it is one thing that has helped me as a person to increase my body knowledge and secondly, to help me do my official duty.  My advice to the organisers is that they should not be tired; they should keep on re-jigging it because you never can tell who are listening, reading or following you.

“Even among the prominent personalities on the forum, it is not everyone that makes comment on the floor except when it affects them.  So, you never can tell who is following you or who is reading your information.”

“And I also appeal because I could see the administrator most times, cautioning the people and telling them that ‘oh, this is not the rules …..’ And that is why even myself, I make sure that I abide by the rule because I’m a para-military officer and we operate by rules,” the FRSC chief added.

He also said: “So, I don’t treat any other thing than official issues on the floor of the forum.  I don’t treat any unofficial matter than those that will be beneficial to members of the public and I commend the administrators and all the members too.”

“I, however, look up to a forum that will provide all of us with an opportunity to see one-on-one,” Oladele stressed.
