NIGERIA: ONE Fulani herdsman was arrested while another one escaped on Tuesday abandoning the grazing cows after security men of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta in Ogun State swooped on them within the polytechnic farmland.

The men who invaded the polytechnic premises with their cows caused panic among the students and staffers of the institution who quickly notified the security officials.

GatewayMail correspondent who was at the school premises when the shocking development occurred learnt that the cows were grazing on the farmland while the two Fulani herdsmen kept eyes on them.

It was further gathered that the security men, who felt unsatisfied with the explanation offered by the herdsmen, apprehended one of them while his colleague fled.

The arrested herdsman, according to eyewitness, was immediately taken to Adigbe Police Station in Abeokuta by the polytechnic’s security operatives.

The arrested man, who was later released after the Public Relations Officer of their association, Abdul Mumuni, who was contacted, came and wrote an undertaking apparently guaranteeing safety within the polytechnic.

Mumuni, however, said in the undertaking that the association would further enlighten the members to desist from grazing within the polytechnic farmland.

In the undertaking, copies of which were handed over to the police, the herdsmen and the polytechnic management, the Fulani nomads stated that the school management should apprehend and prosecute any of its members who violate the agreement.

The polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Adebiyi, could not be reached for reactions as all efforts to get him proved abortive.

Adebiyi, who declined to pick cellphone when called, replied through text to get back to our correspondent, but refused to do so as at the time of filling this report.

A fascinating discussion is definitely worth comment. I think that you should write more on this subject matter, it might not be a taboo matter but generally folks don’t talk about these issues. To the next! Cheers!!
