NIGERIA: A CROP of fresh Super Falcons players to represent Nigeria at the continental and international soccer competitions may soon emerge going by plans on the table of the business mogul, Chief Kessington Adebutu.
Adebutu, who was impressed by the excellent performance of the female national soccer team in retaining the African Women Cup of Nations title in Cameroon, said that he was fully ready to assist the country in raising fresh players.
He told sports journalists that if put in the place, the players will represent the country in future women football championships, including the Under-17 and Under-20 teams.
Adebutu disclosed the plan on Sunday at the final match of the fourth edition of the Ogun State Football Association Under-18 boys championship between Sagamu Local Government and Abeokuta North Local Government football teams played at the Gateway Stadium in Sagamu.
The multi-millionaire lotto owner stressed that the time had come for other stakeholders to assist the government in the sponsorship of various sporting competitions in the country.
Adebutu, reputed as a great philanthropist, promised to start organizing the female version of the Under-18 football championship in Ogun State beginning from next year edition.
According to him, the contest will be among various teams from different parts of the state.
He appealed to parents to always allow their wards to take part in sports as some of them could end up eking out living for themselves in their preferred games.
Adebutu also promised to continue with the sponsorship of the tournament, which he added that his foundation would always bankroll.
At the end of the final soccer contest, Sagamu Local Government football team defeated Abeokuta North counterpart on penalties after both teams had ended the highly explosive game scoreless at regulation time.
