Ambode, Amosun, Fayose, other South West govenors meet on development

NIGERIA: GOVERNORS in the South West on Monday met to forge a regional cooperation for the development of their people.

Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who hosted his colleagues at the South West Economic Forum with the theme “Socio-economic development of South Western Nigeria,” held at the Governor’s office, Agodi, Ibadan, charged the governors to tackle the challenges confronting the region and the country through regional approach.

Senator Ajimobi while welcoming his colleagues stressed on a regular meeting among them, saying that it was necessary for them to merge strength, build synergy, strengthen the capacities of the states and ensure they take the lead in the drive towards socio-economic development.

He explained that Western Nigeria, with the most notable civilization, great development orientation and land mark achievements, can be great economically.

Ajimobi also stated that actions arising from good governance can make the region an icon and model in the committee of region, adding that division amongst them would not produce the best result.

He maintained that it was high time the people are brought out of poverty, insecurity and under-development through innovative thinking.

The Governor enjoined that all South West leaders to come together in unity irrespective of political affiliations to foster development by playing the politics of development.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, however, posted on his Facebook that the socio-economic development of the South West was top on the agenda of the meeting.

“It is important that leaders come together to collectively work towards the aspirations of the people of the South West,” Ambode said, adding: “This is the beginning of a very important journey, of building our economy and jointly defeats our challenges.”

He added: “Irrespective of our political differences, we will make economic policies that will improve the quality of life for our people in the South West States.  The South West States must focus on the values that unite us as one body.

“It’s a new dawn for the South West states; we will merge our strength for socio-economic development.”
