CANADA: ONTARIO is set to carry out inquest into the death of three persons, two of who died at the Maplehurst Correctional Complex in Milton.
The Regional Supervising Coroner for Inquests, Dr. David Eden, announced that an inquest would be carried out to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of 39-year-old Fransisco Romero Astorga and 68-year-old Jozef Kozdra.
Similarly, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, Dr. James Edwards, announced that Dr. John Carlisle will preside as inquest coroner and Michael Blain will be the counsel to the coroner on the demise of the 49-year-old David Doucette.
GatewayMail gathered that an inquest coroner, Dr. William J. Lucas, is to focus on examining the circumstances that led to the death of Astorga and Kozdra in line with the Coroners Act.
A news release by the Ontario government explained that the jurors, after sittings, are expected to make recommendations that would help prevent similar deaths in the future.
Kozdra died last January 23, while Astorga died last March 13, and Dochette lost his life from injuries he sustained following a shooting by Toronto Police Service.
“An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act,” the release said, adding: “The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
