FG approves eight private universities

NIGERIA: EIGHT additional private universities have joined the list of approved higher institutions in the country.

The Minister of State (Education), Prof. Anthony Anwuka, gave this cheery news when addressing journalists in Abuja on Wednesday after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

Anwuka said that government gave approval to the new universities following the FEC consideration of a memorandum submitted by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The minister said that the new private institutions are Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, Lagos State, which belongs to Deeper Life Christian Ministry; Arthur Jarvis University, Akpabuyo, Cross River State, owned by Clitter House Nigeria Limited; and Clifford University in Abia State under the supervision of Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Others, according to the Minister, are Coal City University, Enugu, Enugu State, founded by African Thinkers Community of Inquiry College of Education, Enugu; Crown-Hill University, Eiyenkorin, Kwara State that belongs to Modern Morgy and Sons Limited; and the Dominican University, Ibadan, which is owned by Order of Preachers, Nigerian Dominican Community.

Anwuka also said that the FEC approved Kola Daisi University, Ibadan, Oyo State, which belongs to Kola Daisi Foundation and Legacy University, Okija in Anambra State, whose proprietor is Good Idea Education Foundation.

According to him, the universities were licensed to operate for the initial three-year to measure their level of performance.

He stressed that the universities would be mentored by some existing universities in good proximity to them.

In this regards, the Minister said that Anchor University would be mentored by the University of Lagos, while University of Calabar, Calabar, University of Agriculture, Umudike, and University of Nigeria, Nsukka would oversee Arthur Jarvis, Clifford and Coal City universities respectively.

Anwuka also said that University of Ilorin, Kwara State, would mentor Crown-Hill University while Dominican and Kola Daisi universities in Ibadan would be under the supervision of the University of Ibadan.

    Bel, quando cheguei de Londres e peguei um taxi na estação percebi que existe um rodízio de taxistas que não são credenciados. Passam na frente da estação e o auxiliar vai parando e colocando os passageiros dentro. Eu conhecia o trajeto até o hotel e expliquei ao motorista que, mesmo assim, tentou encompridar o caminho. Pedi para parar e voltei a pé até o hotel. Estava sozinha e, como fiquei nervosa, falava stop, stop here please rsrsrs Só quando paguei a corrida, percebi e, comecei a dar risada.
