Police arrest 23 for armed robbery

NIGERIA: NO fewer than 23 armed robbery suspects have been apprehended and paraded on Friday by the Ogun State Police Command.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Ilyasu, while parading the suspects to journalists at Eleweran Command headquarters in Abeokuta, said they were arrested at various locations in the state.
He said a number of exhibits which included double barrel pistols, pump action guns, cut to size locally made guns, revolver pistols, packet of live cartridges, berretta pistols and charms were recovered from them.
The police boss disclosed that a number of the suspects have made confessional statements, adding that on completion of investigations they would be charge to court.
Ilyasu said that the towns where the bandits operated before their arrest are Sagamu, Ogijo, Ibefun, Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Ife, Imeko, and Agbara, all in Ogun State.
He said that the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) arrested the suspects in their hideouts, scene of operations and in attempt by some of them to escape.
The police boss assured that the command would continue to make the state inhabitable for criminals of all shades.
The commissioner urged the public to always give information of any criminal and criminal acts to the command, while adding that such information would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Iliyasu also warned criminal minded people to keep off the state or face unpalatable consequences.
