NIGERIA: TWO ex-convicts – who were recently released from prison – may be on their way back to jail.
The men, Moses Ojelade and Wasiu Lambo, who police discovered killed a man early this month, were arrested for robbery.
The two jailbirds were alleged to have snatched a motorcycle at gunpoint in Ofada area of Ogun State.
“Investigation revealed that the two suspects were ex-convicts who just came out from prison,” the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a press release on Thursday.
He stressed: “ It was also discovered that the duo have earlier robbed and killed one Oroke Chukwuma on 6th October, 2016 in Ofada Area.”
Oyeyemi explained that the men who were arrested last October 15 along Ofada-Mowe road, stopped one motorcyclist, David Sunday, and pretended to be genuine passengers.
He further stated that along the road, the men sprayed a grinded dry pepper on the face of the victim and dispossessed him of his motorcycle.
Oyeyemi added that Sunday raised the alarm and policemen attached to Owode-Egba Division on routine patrol led by their Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Sheu Alao, raced to the scene and were able to arrest Ojelade.
“His arrest led to the arrest of his accomplice, Wasiu Lambo,” the police image maker said.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered that the suspect be transferred to FSARS for discrete investigation,” Oyeyemi stressed.
