NIGERIA: THREE alleged notorious land grabbers have been dragged to court for prosecution for criminal offences.

Their offences included illegal possession of ammunition and violent attack, the Nigeria Police Force Zonal Public Relations Officer, Zone 2, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, told GatewayMail.

Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, said on Wednesday that the suspects – Ibrahim Oduola, Abdulafeez Oduola and Joseph Akintunde –were members of the land grabbing gang known to be terrorising Orudu and Oke Olokun in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.

According to the police image maker, the suspects were arrested on October 1 when ‎the command was duly informed of the activities of the suspects.

Adejobi stated that the command immediately despatched a team of Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Zone 2 Command Headquarters to the scene to restore normalcy and apprehend the men and “any individuals that engaged in such unacceptable act.”

‎According to him, the team arrested Ibrahim Oduola, who was found hanging a bag on his neck and upon search two battle axes, two sharp knives, some assorted dangerous charms, and other items were found in the bag.

Adejobi explained that Ibrahim confessed that he went with other members of his gang, with the recovered dangerous items, to Oke Olokun Village to repel attacks from a rival group.

The police image maker added that Ibrahim’s arrest led to the arrest of AbdulAfeez and Akintunde.

“The suspects have all been charged to court as directed by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Abdulmajid Ali,” Adejobi said, adding: “The police boss, who frowns at land grabbing or land speculation, will not relent on making the zone tough for any individual or group of persons who promote such illegal and inhuman acts within the zone, henceforth, while he urged the general public to report any act of land grabbing to his office for necessary action.”

Meanwhile, Ali has said that the prosecution of the land grabbers, often called “Omo-Onile”, is in line with his promises and determination to assist the government in curbing land grabbing within the zone.

Ali, who directed the Anti-Kidnapping Team to prosecute the land grabbers,
said that he was “duly informed of the activities of some land grabbers at Orudu, Oke Olokun Village in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area, of Lagos State.”
