EFCC quizzes FUTA vice-chancellor, bursar over fraud

NIGERIA: THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has quizzed the Vice-Chancellor of Federal University of Technology (FUTA), Akure, Ondo State, Professor Adebiyi Daramola and the institution’s Bursar, Mr. Emmanuel Oresegun, over allegation of fraud.
The Zonal Head of Public Affairs, Ayo Oyewole told GatewayMail that the Vice-Chancellor and Bursar were also questioned on Wednesday at the Iyaganku, Ibadan office of the commission over alleged abuse of office and misappropriation of funds.
“Professor Adebiyi Daramola, Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo State and the Bursar, Emmanuel Ademola Oresegun, are being quizzed at the Iyaganku office of the EFCC in Ibadan today 5th of October, 2016 in respect of an alleged case of abuse of office and misappropriation of funds reported against the duo,” Oyewole said.
He explained that the petition against the duo alleged that Daramola and Oresegun were involved in “corruption, fraud, criminal breach of trust, unlawful enrichment and conversion of millions of naira of the university.”
Oyewole stressed: “The Vice Chancellor allegedly drew furniture allowance annually instead of once in four years as approved and was paying himself housing allowance while residing in the university’s Vice-Chancellor’s quarters.”
The EFCC zonal image maker further said that it was also alleged that Daramola diverted funds from various unrelated subheads to finance other projects without due process in line with procedures laid down in the university rules.
