Kidnapped four Lagos residents regain freedom

NIGERIA:  BARELY two days after a tactical team of policemen was raised by the Assistant Inspector General of Police Zone 2 Command, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali, four residents of Lagos kidnapped recently has been freed.

In this direction, Ali has commended all that participated in the rescue of the four, whom the police did not give their identities, but were abducted Saturday, September 17 at their Lekki Gardens, Isheri residence.

The Zone 2 Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Muyiwa Adejobi, stated in a press release that the AIG was pleased with the cooperation that led to the freedom of the captives.

Ali praised the police operatives and other security officers detailed for the rescue operation and the residents of the Lekki Garden Estate, and the entire Isheri Community, for their steadfastness and commitment towards the rescue of the affected victims,

“The AIG, who expressed his delight, gave the commendation while reacting to the rescue of the captives in his office on Friday,” Adejobi further explained in the release.

He added: “In the same vein, the Assistant Inspector-General of police has reassured the residents of the area of adequate security as he has deployed large number of police operatives from Lagos, Ogun and zonal headquarters Onikan Lagos to the area to fortify its security.

Adejobi also said that the police boss had earlier met with the leaders of the communities and approved the immediate construction of a police station, with the help of the communities, in the area.

The police post, according to him, would serve the communities for adequate protection of lives and property of more than 100,000 residents in the affected communities.

The AIG, the police image maker also said, promised the people of necessary steps to be taken to dislodge and suppress the hoodlums (kidnappers) who terrorise innocent Nigerians in the riverine areas within the zone.

“The AIG reiterated his commitment to sustain the fight against violent crimes and social vices in the zonal command, and promote community policing principles that will cement the existing collaboration between the police and the general public in Lagos and Ogun states,” Adejobi emphasised.

Ali had mandated the tactical team to work harder to rescue the four abducted persons.

Ali charged the team, which comprises trained and versatile police operatives and ICT experts from Lagos and Ogun commands and Force Headquarters, Abuja, to ensure the abductors were freed unhurt.

The AIG, who gave the directive to members of the team, described the kidnapping as unfortunate and condemnable in all ramifications.

“AIG Abdulmajid Ali wishes to assure the relations of the victims and general public of timely and successful rescue operation as the police have clues to the incident,” Adejobi had said.

“And that the hoodlums, who have no hidden place, will be apprehended,” Adejobi stressed in the release, adding: “He also assures the residents of the area of adequate security.”

“The police boss therefore appeals to the relations of the victims and the general public to support the police with useful information on the rescue operation while he works assiduously with the two commissioners of Police in Lagos and Ogun and other stakeholders to rescue the victims and sustain the fight against kidnapping and other crimes within the zonal command,” the Zonal image maker further explained.
