NIGERIA: A ONE-TIME Senator, who represented Ogun Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Gbenga Obadara, has declared that no senator in the history of the district performed up to his standard while in the Red Chamber.

Obadara, who was the Chairman, Senate Committee on Privatisation and Commercialisation, and was in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, said that of all the Senators that had so far represented the district he brought unbeatable number of federal projects to the district.

It would be recalled that at the return of democracy in 1999, Senators Femi Okurounmu, Ibikunle Amosun (now Ogun State Governor), had represented the district in the Senate while the incumbent is All Progressive Congress (APC) Dr. Lanre Tejuoso.

Obadara, who was defending his tenure on a social network group, Penpushing, stressed that during his four years stay in the Upper Chamber he brought 163 projects and that all were completed.

“Without being immodest in the history of Senatorial representation in National Assembly…I brought into the Senatorial (district) 163 projects which are verifiable in all the 74 wards of Ogun Central,” Obadara, who was in the Senate on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), stressed.

He listed the series of projects that he brought to the district, which included constructions and rehabilitation of schools, empowerment programmes, and jobs provisions, adding “same as transformers we are installing in the six local governments after leaving the Senate.”

The Senator stated that all the projects were sited in the six local government areas under the senatorial district.

“In every local government I have lots to show which are unprecedented,” he stressed, adding: “Up unto this time I am still delivering minimum of 3 classrooms with furniture and toilets in 3 local governments after leaving the Senate.”

He stressed: “I laboured and worked for my 163 projects and completed.  I still maintain we have never witnessed such in the history of Senatorial representation in Ogun Central in the Senate.  I stand to be corrected.”

“I established Women and Youth Empowerment Centre at Wasimi where I partnered with NDE and SMEDAN to train 1,500 youth at various times,” he said, adding: “The NDE is at Abeokuta for reference.”

Obadara, who defended his frequent travels while in office, said: “If you know the workings of the Senate you will know that as the Chairman of Privatisation and Commercialisation in the Senate, the representative of the ECOWAS parliament in the United Nations you travel a lot and these jobs required coming to UK as you mentioned.”
