Zone 2: Police nab eight bandits for robbery, killing, truck hijacking

NIGERIA: NO fewer than eight suspected armed bandits have been apprehended at various locations within Lagos State for alleged robbery.

The robbers were also nabbed for killing a night guard in Amuwo Odofin and breaking into warehouses and carting away goods worth millions of naira.

The men of the Nigeria Police attached to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Command, Lagos, carried out the arrests, the Zonal Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a press release.

Adejobi explained: “The Officer in Charge of the unit, who got an intelligent report on the criminal activities of the suspected armed robbery syndicate, on 23/08/2016, while planning to embark on a robbery operation at Ikotun area, Lagos State, swung into action with his operatives, and arrested 4 (four) members of the gang that specialized in armed robbery, truck hijacking, diversion of trucks and breaking of warehouses in Lagos and some parts of Ogun State.”

He added: “During police interrogation and investigation, additional 4 (four) members of the gang were arrested, which 2 (two) of them are receivers of stolen goods.  These suspects carried out a robbery operation at Ajao Estate, opposite Eleganza Plaza, Lagos on 28/05/2016 where a night guard on duty was killed and carted away Aluminium Sheets worth N22,000,000 (twenty two million naira only).”

Adejobi stated that the suspects included Aniete Akonnah, Promise Friday, Happiness Promise, Obi Ebong, Silas Effiong, Monday Udoh, and Ifedinachukwu Iwuola with Sumaila, both receivers of the stolen goods.

“Items recovered from them include consumable goods such as Geisha, Tin Tomatoes, Maggi (seasoning), Motorcycles and their spear parts, sockets and chains etc,” the zonal image maker further stressed.

He added: “It’s crystal clear that this syndicate had caused untold hardship to many innocent Nigerians as one of the victims (name withheld) of a robbery operation carried out by the suspects on 5th August, 2016, lamented to the police operatives how her warehouse at Alakoso, Amuwo-Odofin Industrial Estate, Lagos, was burgled and goods worth N28,000,000 (Twenty Eight million naira) were carted away.

“The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command Lagos, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, has condemned the acts of this syndicate and directed that the suspects be thoroughly investigated and their weapons be recovered without delay.”
