NIGERIA: APPARENTLY displeased with their activities, the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has urged the police to flush out land grabbers, often called Omo Oniles, in Lagos and Ogun states.
Oba Akiolu, who received the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, at his Lagos palace on Tuesday, also promised to offer support to the police in all ramifications.
The royal father, who is a retired senior police officer, however, commended Ali for his doggedness and commitment in fighting crimes and social vices in the zone.
Similarly, the retired Inspector General of Police, Musiliu Smith, has praised Ali on his efforts to tackle crimes in the zonal command, the Zone 2 Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said in a press release made available to GatewayMail.
Smith, during a courtesy call on him by Ali, according to Adejobi, held talks with the AIG on many germane, fundamental and topical issues that affect Lagos and Ogun states.
The ex-police top shot also assured Ali of support, just as he promised to stand by the zonal command generally as all hands must be on deck to sanitize the zone of crimes.
Ali had visited his former bosses in the Nigeria Police as part of his plans to provide adequate security for lives and property of residents within Zone 2.
The AIG, who was accompanied by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration, ACP Janet Agbede, Assistant Commissioners of Police, X-Squad and Operations, Officer in charge of the Zonal Monitoring Unit, CSP Muideen Adisa and Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, SP Muyiwa Adejobi, promised to be more proactive and not to relent on his effort to tackle crimes, particularly cultism and land speculation within the zone.
He, however, reiterated his zero tolerance for corruption and improper behavior in the police force.
