Ogun police boss seeks PCRC’s support against crimes

NIGERIA: IN order to discharge his duties in fighting and curbing crimes in Ogun State, the new Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has sought the cooperation of the Police Committee Relations Committee (PCRC) in the state.

Iliyasu, who once served in the state before his recent appointment, made the appeal at the weekend at the Police Officers Mess, Government Reservation Area, Abeokuta, while playing host to members of the PCRC.

The commissioner, while addressing the members of the committee, appreciated the roles of‎ the PCRC in the success recorded by his predecessor, Abdulmajid Ali who in now the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, which comprises of Ogun and Lagos commands.

He enjoined the committee members to extend the same support to him during his tenure.

Iliyasu said: “I’m ready to identify with your cause to jointly fight crimes; my door is wide open and I assure you that you will get everything you want to contribute in fighting crimes.”

The police boss, who noted that the provision of security is dangerous, said he was convinced on the need for people policing, while assuring the committee members to have confidence in him.

“For me my idea is people policing,” he said, adding: “You are going to get that confidence from me‎. You can only solve problem when you call people.”

“This is time we are going to do community policing.  I’m urging you to assist us for information in your communities.  Let’s make Ogun State crime free,” Iliyasu pleaded with the PCRC members.

Meanwhile, the command has commenced 24 hours surveillance patrol on the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said in a press release made available to GatewayMail on Sunday, that the Police Commissioner, Ahmed Iliyasu, has ordered immediate commencement of the patrol.

According to him, the step was a proactive measure of the command in order to ensure adequate security of life and properties of motorists plying the road.

“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State Police Command Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered 24hrs surveillance patrol on that road especially Sapade, Ogere, Fidiwo as well as long Bridge axis of the road,” Oyeyemi said.

He explained that apart from the order given by Iliyasu to the Divisional Police Officers along the expressway to ensure adequate security in their areas, the commissioner has equally deployed men of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Quick Response Squad and Safer Highway to boost security along the ever busy road.

“The Commissioner of Police noted that the road being one of the busiest roads in the country deserves to be properly policed so as not to give hoodlums any chance to operate,” the image maker said.

Oyeyemi added: “He, therefore, called on citizenry to cooperate with the Police by giving them useful information whenever they notice any strange happening on this road by contacting police control room on GSM no 08081770416.”
