Ooni picks famous female drummer, ‘Ara’ as cultural ambassador

NIGERIA: THE Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has appointed the first African female drummer, Aralola Apeke Olamuyiwa, as the Cultural Ambassador of Ife Kingdom, the cradle of Yoruba.

The appointment of Olamuyiwa, the renowned female drummer, was contained in a letter personally signed by Oba Ogunwusi.

The Ooni in the letter made available to GatewayMail explained that Olamuyiwa, often called Ara in the music industry, was chosen as the ambassador due to her ‎hard work, doggedness and resilience as an accomplished first female African talking drummer.

The first class monarch described Ara as a renowned cultural icon and heritage to the world stage.

He explained that Olamuyiwa was appointed so that the unique instrument of the African people could be promoted, preserved and harnessed for future generation.

Oba Ogunwusi said: “On behalf of the good people of Ile-Ife the cradle of Yoruba race, I wish to congratulate you Aralola Apeke Olamuyiwa on your appointment as the cultural ambassador of this noble kingdom.”

He further stated that the appointment was with immediate effect.
