60-year-old man held for defiling six-year-old girl

NIGERIA: FOR allegedly having sex with a six-year-old girl, a 60-year-old man has run himself into trouble.

The police in the state have arrested Mayegun Alani for defiling the little girl in Sango Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government area of Ogun State.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, who confirmed this to GatewayMail at the weekend, said that the suspect, a landlord, committed the offence last Thursday.

Adejobi said: “The operatives attached to Otta Division of the command have arrested one  Mayegun Alani, M, 60, for defiling a girl of 6 year old, on 21st July at No 3 Mayegun Street, Sango, in Ado Odo Otta Local Government Area of Ogun State.”

According to him, the mother of the victim noticed the girl’s unusual signs and reported the incident to the police after the girl’s confession.

“The mother asked the little baby some questions which gave a clue that the landlord was responsible for her defilement,” Adejobi, a Superintendent of Police, explained.

He added: “The suspect was arrested by the police immediately.  Initially, he denied the allegation but later confessed to the crime that he has been having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl for at least a month. And medical report confirmed that the girl has been defiled.”

The police image maker said that the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone II, Mr. Abdulmajid Ali has directed that the case should be transferred to the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence of the command, Eleweran Abeokuta for thorough investigation and consequent prosecution of the suspect.

Ali, who expressed displeasure on the case, condemned the culprit’s act in totality.

He, however, assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated and dealt with accordingly.
