Kidnappers throw money to crowd to escape arrest

Suspected kidnappers on Thursday threw naira notes into the crowd in a decoy to escape arrest in Warri, Delta State.

As policemen pursued the kidnappers, they mixed with the crowd and began throwing money, just as the people struggled among themselves to pick them.

In the ensuing confusion, the kidnappers escaped but abandoned their vehicle.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu, a deputy superintendent of police, disclosed this at the state police headquarters in Asaba, the state capital.

The police image maker stated that in such situation it was difficult for police to arrest the kidnappers, as the crowd may fall victims.

Kalu further said that the police got wind of the kidnappers who rode in red coloured Vento Volkswagen car with registration number Delta UGH 519 MZ.

According to the police officer, the kidnappers, sensing danger, ran into the crowd and used the money decoy to escape.

Also, Kalu said that after carrying out a search on the vehicle, two double barrel guns, 31 live cartridges, 10 expended cartridges, vehicles number plates and a Nokia phone were seized.

Kalu also disclosed that five students of Delta State Polytechnics, Oghara were apprehended at the initiation ceremony of members of secret cult.

The PPRO stated that the students belonged to the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

The PPRO disclosed further that one armed robber, Isawhe Oghale, was killed in exchange of fire, while his fellow bandits escaped.

She explained that Oghale was shot dead after his ganged had concluded robbery operations in Toyota Camry car marked UGH 550 AA along the Warri-Sapele Road by the AP fuel station.
