Amosun nabs couple dumping garbage on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

NIGERIA: OGUN State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has disclosed how he apprehended a couple who dumped garbage on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The governor, who arrested the couple on Sunday, said he thereafter handed the culprits over to the police for prosecution.

He made this known while featuring as guest of the Committee for Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) organised 2016 Democracy Day held at June 12 Cultural Centre, Abeokuta, the state capital‎.

Amosun stated that he nabbed the husband and wife with their Lexus jeep’s booth full of garbage while they were heading to the church.

According to him, he was on his way from Lagos to Abeokuta when he saw that the culprits parked on the highway to dump the refuse beside the road.

Amosun said that he initially thought that the car had a fault, but when he moved closer he discovered that the couple were offloading the garbage on the highway.

He stated that on seeing what the couple, who had their children in their car, was doing, he halted his vehicle, but that immediately the couple jumped into their car and sped off.

Their action, Amosun further explained, made him to order his security men to pursue the couple, who were heading to Lagos.

The governor, who said that the couple was eventually arrested at Ojota in Lagos and brought back to him, stated that as at the time of narrating the story to the gathering, the husband had been detained at Ibara Police Station in Abeokuta.

The man would be charged to court on Tuesday, the Governor stressed.

Amosun narrated thus: “I was coming from Lagos to Abeokuta, when I saw this Lexus Jeep parked on the Highway.

“The car was conveying the couple and their children to church.  I thought the car had a fault, but I found out that the booth was opened.”

He further said: “On moving closer I was shocked to see the husband, a well-read man, moving out heaps of refuse from the booth and dumping on the highway on their way to church, an indication that that has been their stock in trade.”

“As soon as my convoy stopped the couple took off, and I ordered my security to pursue; they were pursued to Ojota in Lagos before they were arrested,” the Governor said.

He maintained: “As I am talking to you now, the suspect is in Ibara Police here in Abeokuta and would be taken to court on Tuesday.”
