NIGERIA: A 20-YEAR-OLD man, Wahab Abdul-Aziz, has been arrested by Ogun State Police Command for allegedly defiling a 10-year-old girl.

The Command’s‎ Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, told journalists that the incident happened in Sparklight Estate, Isheri-Olofin in Obafemi-Owode Local Government area of the state.

According to him, Abdul-Aziz lured the victim, who was on an errand, into an uncompleted building where he had carnal knowledge of the girl.

“The police operatives attached to Ojodu Abiodun Division have arrested one Wahab Abdul-Aziz, m, 20, of Sparklight Estate, Isheri Olofin, Ogun State for forcefully  having unlawful  carnal knowledge of one girl of 10 year old at an abandoned building  within the same estate, on Monday 4th April, 2016 at 1300hrs,” the police image maker said.

Adejobi also said: “The girl, who was sent on errand by her mother, was lured into the abandoned building and was defiled by the suspect.

“The mother of the victim reported the incident to the police, hence the arrest of the suspect who has confessed to the crime.”

The police PRO explained that the Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali, has directed the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ojodu Abiodun to transfer the case to Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Eleweran, Abeokuta for proper investigation and prosecution.

“The Commissioner of Police Ogun State has, however,  advised residents in Ogun State to always encourage owners of abandoned or isolated structures to work on them or make them clean (clear the bushes) always so as to debar hoodlums  from using them to perpetrate evil acts of this nature,” Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said.

The police image maker urged the public to cooperate with the police to fight crimes and social vices like these, as such barbaric and inhuman acts must be totally eradicated.

He pleaded that such development should be reported to the police without minding any social stigma, while declaring that the command would ensure that anyone arrested for similar offenses face the full wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, Ali has personally taken over the assessment and deployment of patrol teams along ever-busy Lagos/Ibadan and Lagos/Sagamu/Benin Expressway with adequate instructions to solidify security arrangements along the highways for protection of lives and property of commuters and other road users within Ogun State.

where he deployed teams accordingly.

The areas of concentration or flash points included Sagamu Interchange, Ogere, Sapade, Oni Gaari, Long Bridge in Isheri, Wawa Ibafo, Ososa, Odogbolu, Ogbere and J4, among others.

The teams, more than 30, deployed including Safer Highway, Quick Response Squad, Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Police Mobile Force, Anti-Crime Patrol teams and Anti Kidnapping Squad, will henceforth be held responsible for any security lapses within their areas of coverage along the highways within Ogun State.

Ali, who was accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Bello Makwashi, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of CIID, Shina Olukolu, Area Commanders of Sagamu and Ijebu Ode, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi, the PPRO and others, however, warned the teams to be thorough and professional in discharging their duties as he will not tolerate any act of corruption or incivility to members of the public.

The commissioner also appealed to the public to support the police in its bid to provide adequate security for lives and property in the state and the country at large.
