Police chief advocates PR principles to fight corruption, unemployment

NIGERIA: THE Ogun State Command Police Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has stressed the need to
embrace the principles of public relations to fight corruption and unemployment in the country.
Adejobi, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, made the call at the yearly “Diamond Lecture” of the Department of
Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta.
The police image maker, who spoke on “Public Relations Imperatives For Managing Corruption And Youth Unemployment In Nigeria,” charged the students to support the ongoing war against corruption by the President Muhammadu Buhari administration.
The PPRO, as the lead lecturer, also charged them to shun cultism and social vices that are inimical to peaceful coexistence and development in the society.
The police spokesperson, who enumerated some challenges and possibilities of fighting corruption and unemployment with public relations principles, equally charged the management of the polytechnic to maintain its solid internal structures in fighting crimes and cultism on the campus.
According to Adejobi, who is a member Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), such security measure should be repeated and made applicable in all tertiary institutions in the Gateway State.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Chapter of the NIPR, Mr. Tope Daramola, joined the call by Adejobi, while also stressing on the anatomy of corruption at the event attended by large number of students of Mass Communication and others.
The chairman of the occasion, Dayo Adeneye, who is the Ogun State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, commended the Mass Communication Department on the lecture and for choosing the appropriate theme for the occasion.
Among dignitaries present at the event were Mrs. Moni Falade, who represented the commissioner, the Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof. Itiola Oladele, represented by Mr. Babajide, Head of Department, Mass Communication, Mr. Kolawole Amos, and Chairman, Ogun State Correspondents Chapel, Mr. Kunle Olayeni, Mr. Nuraen Bakenne of the Public Relations arm of Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijebu-Ode.
