Widow of Lambo, ex-WHO director-general, dies at 93

NIGERIA: THE wife of the former Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the late Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo, is dead.
Mrs. Vivian Lambo (nee Adams), 93, died on Saturday, a statement by the Ogun State Government on Sunday, said.
Lambo, it would be recalled, who was the first Professor of Psychiatry in Africa, died over 10 years ago and was buried at the African Church, Igbore, Abeokuta cemetery.
“The Ogun State Government has announced the death of Mrs. Dinah Vivian Lambo (nee Adams) matriarch of the Thomas Adeoye Lambo family,” Adejuwon Soyinka, Senior Special Assistant (Media) to the Governor, said.
“The late Mrs. Lambo who died on Saturday, March 19, 2016, aged 93, was the widow of late Professor Thomas Adeoye Lambo, Africa’s first Professor of Psychiatry and former Director General of the World Health Organization, WHO, who was an indigene of Abeokuta, Ogun State,” Adejuwon further explained in the statement.
The state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has lamented the death, but he stated that he thanked God for the life of Mrs. Lambo who he described as “a virtuous, resourceful and committed ally of her late husband.”
Amosun, who bemoaned that the deceased would be missed, said that despite that the late woman lived a life worthy of emulation.
According to the governor, her contribution to the society should be celebrated even in death.
However, no date has been fixed for her burial as GatewayMail learnt that the family was yet to finalise the arrangements as at the time of filing this report.
